Cathy’s Story:

At the age of 50, my wife was at the top of her game. As chief of staff to a California State Senator, she managed a large staff in three offices statewide. It was a high stress environment, but she “thrived on stress.”

Then the unthinkable happened.

Cathy suffered a major heart attack. Her left and right coronary arteries were 100% blocked. Honestly, it was a miracle she survived. Her doctors scheduled a four way bypass, but once they opened her up, they ended up doing a five-way.

The surgery was a success, but three months later, three of the bypasses collapsed. An additional heart catheterization was performed and stents were inserted into two of her collapsed arteries to hold them open. It’s called a “full metal jacket.” The third artery could not be re-opened.

Following the stent procedure, the cardiologist bluntly told us it was just a matter of months before Cathy’s other arteries collapsed. The long-term prognosis was not good, and she retired from the legislature after 23 years of service.

We thank God that she beat the odds, but the heavy medications she took slowed her metabolism and she continued to gain weight. Her doctors pleaded with her to lose the weight. Her life depended on it.

She tried all the “diets” with little or no success. She even had a personal trainer and spent thousands on exercise and weight loss programs.

She wanted to hide from the world – and dreaded the possibility of running into old friends and colleagues.

Jeff’s Story:

I’ve always been a stress eater. After the downturn in the economy in 2009, I worked to keep my business afloat. I stopped going to the gym, and found myself packing on the pounds.

More importantly, her doctors began scaling back her meds. She was able to stop two medications completely (saving us a $300 per month co-pay), and cut back most of her others. Her cholesterol numbers are amazing – better than ever before – her blood pressure is perfect, she’s no longer pre-diabetic, her triglycerides and lipid numbers are perfect, and she no longer has metabolic syndrome. She has a new vigor for life.
