When it is rainy, or cold, or you need to stay at home for some reason, but you do not want to miss a day of exercise, the treadmill might need be to your go-to movement for the day. But guess what…?!?! The treadmill can be fun when you do the following:
Rock Out! Have a playlist that you update frequently and listen to exclusively while you are working out. Have you ever heard of a runner’s high? A runner’s high is when your endorphins kick in and allow you to power through a hard sprint or simply to keep at it! Many times songs can be this piece of motivation we need to keep going and push ourselves to achieve our goals. If you don’t want to make a playlist of your own, use a music streaming service and lookup their running playlists. Try to look for a playlist that mentions the BPM (beats per minute). These playlists are designed to get you running in step with the beats and keep your heart range within the set pace for the playlist. Always Be Learning! Your treadmill workouts can serve more than one purpose. Besides your body just burning calories, you have the unique opportunity to invest your mind power into learning something new. Both Apple and Android based smartphones have access to a podcast library. Use your runs as a time to listen to a podcast on a subject that interests you. There are thousands of podcasts ranging from subjects like finance, religion, language to fine arts, games, social or current events! Plus, most podcasts are released on a weekly or even daily schedule so you will always have something to look forward to. Audiobooks are also a great option for those who want to dive into a story! Do Ladder Style Trainings Setting the treadmill at a pace and then continuing that for a half hour or so can get old really fast. Multiply that by the few times a week you exercise and after one week of a new routine you may easily feel less motivated to continue. Ladder style workouts challenge you to climb up to a high intensity point slowly, then work your way back as you gradually bring your heart rate down. If you are looking to begin running or are limited to running on a treadmill, the above options will make your workouts challenging and entertaining. Keep taking steps to improve yourself!
